That’s the dream. Everyone wants to go on a diet and lose weight as fast as possible. In reality there is no real shortcut. Diet and exercise are still the key, but cutting down on carbs does seem to accelerate weight loss.
Many low carb diets have a bad reputation because the perception is that people eat way too much protein and not enough fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Some low carb diets seem to turn into no carb diets which isn't healthy. Remember low carb doesn’t mean no carbs. You can still enjoy your favorite fruits, vegetables, and whole grain breads and cereals. You just have to eat everything in moderation. Obviously, a good whole grain cereal is very good for you unless you eat the whole box. In low carb diets, moderation is always key.
One of the first complaints about low carb diets is that people eat too much protein. Some of the more modern low card diets such as the South Beach Diet do not promote too much protein. The diet allows for lean meats and seafood in small portions. You should about the size of your palm. If you eat in restaurants a lot, you will realize immediately that they serve way more protein than you actually need. If you must eat in restaurants often, ask for a doggie bag as soon as you receive your food so that you can pack the extra food away before you are tempted or you can share your food with one of your dinner mates. You would save calories and money.
Because low carb doesn’t mean no carb, you are certainly allowed to eat vegetables. You want to try to eat as many low glycolic vegetables as possible. As I have said many times. Think green. Green vegetables can be eaten in large quantities unless they are fried or dipped in too much dressing. Learn to love the taste of these vegetables either raw or steamed. Every once and a while you can sauté them also in some olive oil.
Fresh fruit can become you best friend. When you are feeling left out and irritated when you see your friends eating sugary sweets, enjoy a luscious peach or apple. Savor the fruit for its rich aromatic flavor and after a time, you won’t even crave those no no foods. You can even create a dessert with an apple and a few ingredients. Carve out an apple getting rid of the core. Mix together a tablespoon of butter, 3 tablespoons Splenda brown sugar, a tablespoon of pecans, and a tablespoon of raisins. Cover in foil and cook at 350 for 45 minutes. Carefully open the apple and you have a fantastic dessert.
Yes, if you stick to a low carb diet and exercise, you will lose weight quickly especially if you eat the carbs in moderation. Low carb diets and quick weight loss is definitely possible.
